Hi, I'm Carly, designer and maker at Carly Dove Boutique.
I began my journey into jewellery making back in 2006 with an evening class in silversmithing. I loved it, but I was due to return to university for an MSc in Information and Library studies, and jewellery making was swept to the side.
Ten years later, after the birth of my second child, I decided not to return to work in libraries. It didn't make financial sense, and I fancied a change. I made a tentative foray back into jewellery with a range of teething necklaces, which have proved to be very popular with mums like me, who were struggling to juggle feeling like mum and feeling like themselves. Two years later I've gained confidence in my designs and abilities, and I'm back making silver jewellery, which has always been my first love.
I'm so happy making these pieces, each one is made with love, and sent off to its new home with bittersweet sadness - although I love that someone likes my work enough to buy it, I feel genuinely sad to see them go! Most pieces are one offs, simply because I don't have the time to make them to order. I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old, and my hands are pretty full. Slow fashion is trendy now though, so does that mean I'm cutting edge??
I find beauty in imperfection. In the signs of craftsmanship in every handmade item. I love knowing that a real person has made an item, rather than a machine that's popped out 100s at a time. Aesthetically I'm drawn to modern, stylised shapes, pops of colour, a bit of wonky design, and clusters of beautiful things.
I have not completely abandoned my teething necklaces, as these are what led me back to silver, so they're still there too, although I'll be cutting down the range available.
Thanks for visiting my shop, I do hope you find something you like. If you have any questions, have an idea for a commissioned piece, or anything at all, please get in touch!
